What to do in case of an accident

Accidents are unfortunate and can be very costly. And that’s why it’s important to have insurance.

Ever wondered what you should do if you find yourself in an accident?

Firstly, stay calm because SA Taxi Protect has got you covered! Secondly, check for injuries. If anyone is hurt, call 10177 for medical assistance.

After you’ve made sure that everyone is okay, take pictures of the accident scene, the vehicles involved in the accident and the damages. While you’re at it, if another vehicle is involved in the accident, get the other driver’s name and surname, Identity Number, physical address and insurance information. You should also take down their registration number and their vehicle make. Do not admit guilt or agree to any settlement terms.

Once you’ve ensured that there are no fluid leaks or warning lights and you believe that the vehicle is drivable, you can safely drive away. You’ll need let us know about the accident on 0800 214 790 and we’ll let you know where to find your nearest approved repairer.

If the damage happens to be severe, do not attempt to drive or even start your taxi as this could result in more damages. Make sure you call us on 0800 214 790 to get an authorized towing supplier to move your taxi. Don’t let any unapproved suppliers tow your taxi as this will result in extra costs.

It’s also important that you report the case to the police within 24 hours and get a copy of the Police Report or case number as this will be required when you submit your claim.

Finally, take a deep breath and contact your broker or give SA Taxi Protect a call on 0800 214 790 to report your claim – we’ll guide you through the process. This has to be done within 30 days but we know you need to keep your business moving so the sooner you submit your claim, the better. Sounds easy enough, right?
